var myText1 = "
This story began several years ago when I had first moved into a new neighbourhood. I would often catch a glimpse of a girl coming out of her house across the street. She would start off walking and that walk would then soon turn into a run. Sometimes I would only catch the running part as I happened to glance out of my front windows or be walking out my front door. She became known as The Running Girl. Time has gone by and The Running Girl is now Katie. Through the years, I've gotten to know Katie and her family a bit more. She lives at home with her mom, four brothers, two cats and a dog. Her parents divorced years ago but the family have remained together in this modest dwelling with a real feeling of what a family was always meant to be. There seems to be a lack of the modern day pressure we all seem to be victims of in one way or another. They've lived in this neighbourhood long enough to remember what used to be but also are witnessing a new generation moving in. Their family unit has remained in tact through these changes and will do so for many more to come. I asked Katie and her family if I could photograph them a few years ago and find that I'm still photographing them today. The images in The Running Girl are a result of the work I've done with them thus far.
";

However, this time a dear friend of ours was to be married close to the town of Roslyn which is still within commuter distance but seemed a million miles away both in its appearance and also its more laid back way of life. After the wedding we headed north to visit some of my wife’s childhood friends. I had never been to these parts of New York and I felt it seemed to fight against the grain of a stressful city life but still kept it within arms reach. We stayed in small towns where the pace was slow but confident while trees still grew on industrial sites and the grass found a way through the cracks in the pavement. Where derelict government housing met a new airport and plans for a new shopping mall weren’t far away. I know that nature will always play the lead role in my eyes. We just have to look for it and not the buildings surrounding it.
";

I decided to go back and photograph several of the people living there along with a few just passing through. The wind was blowing in from the sea and clouds filled the sky. A light jacket was even required. June Gloom was in full force for the first few days of my trip and the lack of light was not an inspiration. As I was standing in the drizzle at about lunch time on my third day, a sudden wind picked up. I watched the clouds blow out and a heat wave blow in within half an hour. The temperature went from 62 to 92 in just a few hours and remained over 100 for 5 days straight. These photographs were taken of my family and friends during those 5 days. On the day I left, the drizzle had returned and the wind swirled. The temperature dropped as fast as it rose and June Gloom seemed to be back in full swing.
";

During my teens, I played competitive tennis around Southern California. Earlier this year, I decided to try and contact an old friend and tennis rival. To my surprise, he is living in Valley Center where I lived as a child and still visit to photograph my Cousins kids. Before connecting with him, I would drive along this same road each time to visit my cousins and noticed on several occasions a tennis court just below a house sitting off to the side of the road. This house and tennis court ended up belonging to him. He lives there with his wife and two daughters. I photographed his two daughters at this house for this chapter.
";

I wasn't quite sure what exactly it was going to be in the beginning and chose to let it find its own feet. However, I didn't set out to make autobiographical images relating to my past and chose to cast females in most cases thus far. I found that many things changed for me starting at this age. My parents decided to split up which lead to a change of schools. Physical changes, psychological changes and a craving for independence all seem to stay with us and shape us into who we are as adults. How we dealt with the issues at hand, who we were surrounded by and how we were lead all contribute to us as individuals. I feel these images are not only portraits of this age group and their surroundings but also an exploration of the emotional solitude we all seemed to have felt at this age.
";

I’ve been blessed with having twin girls who are 4 now and the thought of being without them is suffocating. As humans, we often go through life avoiding the thought that we will die and for myself, the thought of being without my children will someday be a reality. In the beginning of summer, I spent some time in Southern California and a part of my time there was spent visiting my father who nearly died a few months before my trip and the other part was spent photographing Isabella or Bella for short. Bella is 14 years old and recently had a close call with death. We had a conversation about death and how we don’t cherish life enough while living and how, young or old, death can crumble the strongest of humans and the closer this is to home, the more we crumble. I spent some time with Bella and her family and visited places she would often get lost finding. She told me she would get up in the morning and get on her bike and just head in a direction and often get lost doing so. We stumbled on places we felt appropriate and would do a picture or two. Sometimes, we just stayed around her house. She told me every evening around 6pm was dinner with the family time. I’m not sure Bella would have normally had any desire at 14 years of age to sit around the table with her family and talk about the day unless she had gone through what she had gone through. I told her how nearly losing my dad made me feel vulnerable and made me realize how fragile life is. She knew exactly what I meant…first hand and her experience helped her realize what she meant to her family and how they would have been affected if they lost her. These pictures are lighter than my normal fare and are more of a celebration of her life than the ever present thought of the inevitable.
";

I borrowed items that were personal to her and carried them with me as we would wander around from day to day. I would often place one of the items in each photograph. A piece of clothing, a house key, a water bottle that she drank from, even a string she would normally use in the garden were mostly placed in view but sometimes hidden among the leaves or behind an object. The images I took were already a document of her surroundings and the places we passed during the time I was there but rather than the images simply being a documentation, there is an added element of her personal belongings. Not to always see the objects but to know that they were there. To look a bit longer. To feel a little closer. In a way, this process has been similar to our lives. We knew each other a long time ago and wondered often how we were and where we were, even if we still existed. I’m always fascinated with the beauty in the objects and places we see everyday without really taking notice. The things we tend to step over or pass by. Maybe she and I passed each other on the street one day during those 25 years and didn’t take notice. Maybe.";

var myText16 = "My parents stayed together for the best part of 11 years and I promised myself I would do better. I would not go down this path and I would do my best to avoid inflicting any pain upon my children due to the direction a divorce can take. My journey lasted for more than 18 years and then made a sudden turn to where choice wasn't something I had control over. It seems humans just simply struggle to have the ability to stay together for long periods of time and I commend with a full salute to those who reach far and beyond our societies recent statistics. I swore I would make it and didn't. Tears fell in bucket loads and sometimes still do but my kids seem mostly fine although the initial thought of them having to endure this for the rest of their lives broke me into little pieces. They now have 2 places to go between and bunk beds and our life is moving forward in new directions with only time to tell us the true test results. Love hasn't faltered and beliefs haven't changed and fate might just come into play. We will simply have to make the best of it and find new roads to travel down. The images within this story I made throughout the month of October, as it was the final month I lived in my house together as the family that was created there. I went around my neighbourhood and found elements of waste and also of change about to happen. Empty lots will be cleaned up and plastic bags will blow away and find something new to cling to. I went into houses where I had been before to photograph those who were also victim of separation along with the homes where the families remain together and as solid as any young family could be these days. I also went into houses that I hadn't been into before and were owned by some of the oldest residents on that street and where their families had come and gone. Lastly, I photographed some of the children in that area of whom my kids often played with and represent the next generation. Some of the images here re-examine places that I've previously photographed but more than likely, this time, will have been for the last time.";

var myText17 = "Family Tree is a project about the loss and rebirth of my family. I moved from Southern California to England 15 years ago and whilst visiting family members back home, I started photographing the people and places that were important memories in the shaping of who I am today. While I’ve been living in England, many of my relatives on both my fathers and mothers sides have passed away and this has made me realize the impact death has on the lives of those remaining. These images explore the current status of some of my remaining family members in their daily lives and are moments spent together during family gatherings. I also concentrated on returning to places where either significant events in my life happened or happened to those around me and have remained with me since childhood. They are not always memories of great importance but in fact played a role in the life I once knew. This project also explores the addition of a new generation into our family. My nieces are now wives and mothers and their children will experience a very similar life to what I experienced. I tried to find beauty in the everyday life I took for granted while retracing footsteps of places where my memories lay and a new generation of actions will take place.";
